Up to today, I never knew this place existed. I just happened to stumble upon J-Shop during my lunch break where I needed to do a quick work errand across the street at the One Kalakaua Senior Living. The parking at One Kalakaua was full, but I wasn't able park due to no parking space available so I literally pulled up on the parking lot across the street, which happens to be J-Shop's parking lot. I didn't want to just park and walk across the street, so I entered J-Shop to at least buy something and to my surprise, it was a small and cute Japanese mom and pop grocery store. During my quick visit, I noticed that they sold a variety of Japanese snacks and Japanese goods and a variety of premade sushi. I wish I could have roamed around longer, but I'll definitely make my way back if I ever need to do a work errand at One Kalakaua ever again. Because I was parked in their parking lot and I wanted to cross the street to One Kalakaua, I did end up buying my lunch there. I ended up getting a tekka maki and a chilled green tea. I went to pay the nice lady and I did end up asking her if it was ok for me to park my car and walk across the street real quick to do my errand. She was so nice and understanding and told me that because I was their customer, it was ok for me to park there. It was so nice of her and I'd totally understand as well if she told me no. Super grateful! Once I finished my errand, I went back in to thank the lady once again for the kind gesture. Once I got back to my car, I did end up eating the tekka sushi on my drive back to work. It was so fresh and I can tell it was made that day. When I in the store, I did notice that they had a sushi bar on one side of the building and that would make sense to why their maki was so fresh tasting. I'm sure they get their fish in fresh daily. Definitely would love to try their food one day.

Checked out this little shop on Young street. There's section that serves bento and other food, even A4 Wagyu! The cold case had food like meats, seafood (sting ray!), ready made bento, sushi. When we were there, the shelves were a little empty but there were all kinds of Japanese snacks, sauces, cosmetics, stationery items. The workers there are super nice. We had just eaten but we plan to come back and try the bento there

Quaint shop located near One Kalakaua Avenue and Young Street. Free parking in its lot. Clean and organized store containing items imported from Japan and more. You can find snacks, household items, magazines, fresh made bentos and so much more here. Service is exceptional and friendly. Japanese language is generally spoken here. Great fresh sushi, sashimi, donburi style meals, and bentos made here. The oden is very natural taste. No added shoyu or sugar, so don't expect the sweet type or heavy flavors here. The oyako (chicken and egg) donburi is the same. I think it's much healthier, but my Dad wanted more "taste" and gravy. His favorite is still at Ojisan's. Ambiance: 3.5/5 stars Service: 5/5 stars Food: 3.5/5 stars. Sushi is 4/5 stars.

A sushi bar in a little grocery store??? What an awesome concept! Service was outstanding, everyone there was super friendly! It's byob. Definitely make a reservation because they were full. Lots of parking in the front . We had sting ray, sushi, chicken Karaage, tonkatsu black. I don't eat sushi but I wish I could because it looked soooo good. We will definitely be back!

Update on J-Shop I haven't been here for awhile so I decided to stop by for lunch . I was craving for Donburi so I ordered their pork katsu Donburi and also their Salmon Donburi. The Salmon Donburi is very fresh over sushi rice and the price is very good @ $14.95. Also the Katsu Donburi is made to order so it's nice and hot . They do sell pre-made bento as along with a special of the day . Today special on Saturday was tempura bento and Mabo egg plant . This small Japanese grocery store sell lots of things straight from Japan . Especially A5 Wagyu beef look at my pic maybe one day I'll buy a slab like that and just enjoy lol!! Support local

This is an easy 5-star review because J-Shop offers high-quality, fresh, and authentic sushi at an affordable price. They have a joint grocery store selling seasonal fish and a restaurant (by reservation only). Food - Fresh fish that melts in your mouth - Generous fish-to-rice ratio - The sushi nigiri and sashimi omakase are our personal favorites, and they always include the best cuts of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, scallop, and uni. They are consistently really good, and every time, the fish is delicious, and the rice is cooked to perfection (no one wants mushy cold rice... you want that fluffy, sticky texture with sweet yet tangy flavor). Drinks - BYOB, and they offer cups for your sake, wine, and ice buckets to chill the wine. At no extra cost. Plus, the waitresses and chef are so nice and welcoming. Always checking on us and pouring us complimentary hot tea.

Such a cute little place. We came for the omakase, and weren't disappointed. Location: unassuming Japanese market. Ample parking. Service: We were the only patrons there and were well taken care of. Service was friendly, attentive, and we felt the chefs hospitality despite the language barrier. He even put on a little music video for us to enjoy! Food: Fresh, simple, and delicious. The omakase was great for the price (in comparison to the mainland). The negitoro was also delicious and had its signature umami rich taste. You'd never guess that there was a sushi spot this good inside a supermarket. Definitely a hidden gem.
